TVM is more than just ‘a market’, we are a collaborative, creative community of small businesses, designers, artists, creatives, foodies, musicians, culture seekers, sustainable shoppers and lovers of good vibes.
The Village Markets® trades every month at Burleigh Heads State School on the first and third Sunday from 8.30AM until 1PM and in 2018 we introduced a quarterly event at Stones Corner in Brisbane seasonally between 9am and 2pm, check our calendar for upcoming dates.
Founded in 2008, The Village Markets® (TVM) are the original boutique fashion and lifestyle market, showcasing a carefully edited lineup of stalls, live local music, delicious eats, our famous monthly ' Pre-loved Designer & Vintage Rack Sales' and plenty of good vibes.
The Village Markets was created with the intention of providing a platform for talented local emerging designers, creatives and collectors to showcase their wares, connect and collaborate in a positive, unique environment. As well as creating a favourite hangout for locals and visitors to the Gold Coast.
The Village Markets is committed to our community and its success. Being a stepping stone for startups is cornerstone to our business. To support startups, TVM offers a Startup Stall package, each month to a new deserving business. The Village Markets was founded and is co-managed by Marissa Bowden and Sarah Schoeller.
As locals with marketing and events backgrounds, Marissa and Sarah are excited to showcase what the region has to offer and have gained national media coverage for the area and most importantly, it's talented creatives.
In 2012, the duo were selected to feature in a Griffith University's Business School advertising campaign, recognising their success as graduates and since have twice been Cosmo's Women of the Year Finalists, along with being nominated and winning several awards for the business, including Griffith University's prestigious Outstanding Entrepreneurial Alumnus Award in 2018.
Marissa and Sarah launched their first TVM Talks events in 2018 for our community to have real conversations with likeminded folk and learn from their business journeys, along with the launch of their first eBook, How to Launch Your Startup.
Marissa and Sarah are passionate about fostering local talent, sustainability and creating a cultural community event that can be enjoyed by all.
At The Village Markets, we believe in community. Caring for the community by giving back and also, by working towards a more sustainable future. Our journey to running a sustainable event began when we declared the event plastic-free.
We've already saved 200 tonnes of plastic from being used at our event, by going plastic bag and single use straw free. We've also stopped using single use plastics for the running of our events for parking and signage.
Since founding, The Village Markets has placed a large emphasis on reducing ‘fast-fashion’ by not only supporting locally made items, but by the events monthly Rack Sale. Each month, the event hosts 40 locals who sell preloved clothing, which has garnered a huge following and attracts a crowd early each Sunday morning on the first of the month. The conscious decision to promote recycling fashion as been a part of the business since founding.
Zero Waste Event Goal
Having worked towards being a plastic free event for many years, our next goal is to be a zero waste event. This entails ensuring the event is completely plastic-free, then diverting all waste from landfill to recycling or composting.
We want to be industry leaders, setting the benchmark for how events are produced. Our five-year plan includes being a zero-waste event.
In an effort to reduce waste, The Village Markets has several reusable market items available for purchase at each event and online.
