Mitch King

About Mitch King

Mitch King is a singer songwriter and recording artist with a passion for guitar playing. His distinct sound is recognisable by blending singing, guitar, harmonica stomp box and tamborine with most of his original music.

His career began with busking on weekends, which quickly led to performing at festivals, most recently the 2014 Byron Bay Bluesfest, markets and live on the Radio.

His first single titled “Alive” was released in 2012 which has received a great response from the public. He has recently released a film clip of his latest track “Good Life” which will be part of the Album “A Life Under the Sun” to be released later this year.

His sound is constantly evolving and resembles a fusion of pop, blues and folk and has played alongside with the Mason Rack Band and Juzzie Smith.

His creativity and inspiration has been drawn from artists such as John Mayer, Kim Churchill and Jimi Hendrix.

Mitch is occasionally accompanied by his brother Sam King who performs a range of percussion instruments.

Enjoy live tunes by uber talented solo artist Dan Acfield this Sunday at TVM Paradise Point from 8am until 1pm.

This guy's bio is seriously impressive and we're really hanging out to eat, shop and hang to his tunes this Sunday morning!

BIO | Dan Acfield

I come from a long line of musicians. Seriously! My grandfather was a bass player for the Channel 9 Orchestra in Adelaide. His Grandfather played double bass for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and somewhere in there was a guy who wrote hymns in New York as well. So music is in my blood - as well as my sister Hannah's; incidentally, we've been teaming up since 2012 and go by 'The Acfields'. Together, we have a number of tours and releases under our belts, including our EP 'Turning a Page' (2012) and our self-titled full-length album (2014). Noel Mengel (Courier Mail) commended our album and labelled our sound as "distinctive", which I'm almost 100% sure was a good thing. So there's that.

I didn't always team up with my sister, though. In fact, since we both live in different cities (I live in Brisbane, Hannah in Melbourne), we still have our separate projects even today. But once upon a time I was a humble nine year old penning the song "That Bear Will Not Scare Me" and the chance of me compromising such prodigal talent was remote. So I kept writing and playing and eventually, I ended up in Brisbane studying music at TAFE and then at Uni. I formed a band called 'Dear April' and from 2007 to 2010 we gigged around Brisbane and released two EPs. Our greatest successes ironically came not long after we split; a song that I wrote for Dear April called 'Red, Yellow and Blue' was acclaimed by Alex Dyson (Triple J) to be "one excellent tune" and then received highly commended in the QSong competition (now Queensland Music Awards). Rage also made the Red, Yellow and Blue film clip their Indie Clip of the Week!

Determined to establish myself as a solo artist, I next released my solo EP 'Thick Skin' and started to earn my bootstraps by touring Australia, as well as the UK for the first time. Upon returning from overseas, the Dan and Hannah Acfield partnership became an obvious progression and we haven't really looked back since. We've done about half a dozen national tours together now, have received airplay on radio all over the country, including Triple J, ABC (Local and National) and of course, from the many amazing Community Radio stations around Australia. We've played with reputable acts such as Joan Armatrading, Vika & Linda Bull and Josh Pyke. I could further name drop with acts I've supported (ahem, Hungry Kids of Hungary, Diana Anaid, The Trouble With Templeton), but I won't.

Of course, my musical projects aren't all about The Acfields. I'm a versatile musician and regularly gig around Brisbane when I'm not on tour with Hannah. If you're lucky you might catch me in solo mode, which generally features more pedals and plays homage to my more rock-pop roots.

Lily Budiasa

With her haunting earthy vocals and a guitar in hand, Lily Budiasa creates a canvas for her audience. Painting a picture with her honest storyteller lyrics, she captures you with a unique alternate style, humble attitude and beautifully written guitar melodies. Her infatuation with music is nothing new – from the age of four it was evident she was in love and music was already drawing her in. Playing pots and pans for drums, singing along to MTV and having a room full of percussion instruments, a guitar and a karaoke machine, time would tell if this little love affair would last and once you hear her voice you’ll be thankful it did.

Ashleigh Hobbs and Emma Josey
Wanderlust first began when both Emma and Ashleigh were asked to perform for a school function; the two clicked instantly. They shared many similarities in music taste, working well together, and haven’t looked back. Wanderlust enjoy playing songs from genres such as folk, alternative, rock, jazz and even some small influence from country and classical. They write and compose many original works which more often than not fall under the genre alternative folk/rock. Both Emma and Ashleigh play varying instruments and coordinate these into their music.

Kirra Huddy - Just Kirra

'Although I started learning jazz and blues guitar from a young age, since then it’s pretty safe to say I’ve been widely influenced. After sailing the world and globe trekking over the last few years or so, I’ve been reminded of just how music is the supreme gift of universal language that unites us all. Now that I’m back grounded on the Golden Coast… I’ve been kickin around bustin out gigs and bringing some smooooooth soul / jazz / funk / blues / whatever-you-want-to-call-them melodies.

just kirra tunes are expression of my and awe of the nature around us in this wide ol’ world… and the inspirational people who cross our paths on our journeys. My aim is to spread the chillax – sharing with audiences and soaking up some soulful, acoustic, mellowed out vibes.' Kirra.

Candice McLeod

Candice McLeod has finally moved into a house with four real walls!

Having spent 2013 living a nomadic life touring the east coast of Australia with her debut single, Whispers, this young Queensland modern folk artist has found a home away from home in the Grampians National Park, Victoria.

During her busy year of café acoustics and songbird blues, Candice McLeod performed alongside some of Australia’s most talented emerging musicians including Daniel Champagne, Christopher Coleman and Shaun Kirk, showcasing her songbook to audiences countrywide with her enchanting stories and endearing stage presence. These shows included performances at a wide variety of venues around Australia, from cafes and restaurants to large outdoor festivals and leading venues such as The Great Northern Hotel (Byron Bay), Lizotte’s (Dee Why), The Pacific Hotel (Yamba), The Republic Bar (Hobart), The Loft (Gold Coast) and The Sol Bar (Maroochydore).

With plans to record her debut EP before the year is out, Candice has dedicated the autumnal months to writing stories from her telltale heart. Alongside Summer, will be this gypsy soul and her campervan; returning to the festivals and stages across the country to once again warm the ears of her listeners with this new heart-tugging collection of songs.

David Knight

David Knight is an exciting and gifted new artist on the Australian music scene.

Since age 11, David has been studying the guitar in all its forms. Now 21 and sitting somewhere between roots, folk and virtuoso, David has developed a unique style and method of performing with the instrument that is bound to see him become one of this country’s finest and most respected guitarists.??He is already a regular performer on Foxtel’s ‘Guitar Gods and Masterpieces’ program… He is the youngest artist to be featured on the show.??Turning professional while still in high school, David began booking his own extensive tours around Australia, often non-stop for 3 months.?These tours honed David’s skills as an entertainer and as a result he gained a reputation among Australias guitar elite, performing with artists such as Lloyd Spiegel, Geoff Achison and Daniel Champagne.??Festival appearances include Peats Ridge Sustainable Arts and Music Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival, The Apollo Bay Music Festival as well as a series of local festivals in Melbourne.??More recently David has turned his focus on expanding his performance outside of the guitar world. ?While audiences and peers highlighted his percussive overhand guitar style, he was dissatisfied and determined to become more than a virtuoso guitarist. Removing himself from the touring circuit for almost 2 years in order to reinvent.?In 2014, Knight is ready to tour his new show that still maintains his high level of guitar skill but combined it with vocals and songwriting.??David’s debut CD, released in ‘12 will be followed up in early ’15 after he spends this year touring nationally.

‘David has the talent and attitude to no doubt see him become one of this country’s leading guitar players.’
Lloyd Spiegel – Premier endorsee for Cole Clark guitars.

'The intricacy of what David is doing and his determination to push the acoustic guitar into new regions is really admirable. Very proud to have the future of the Australian guitar world in such good hands.'

TAYLOR:

The lyrical landscape of singer/songwriter David Taylor’s seductive and memorably moody vocal timbre is intensified by the impressive musicianship and Australian music lineage of the band. After years of the international troubadour lifestyle, David Taylor returned home to the Gold Coast and formed a heavy folk monster band with members including Nick Stewart and Geoff Green from Aria award winning Brisbane band “George.” With the inclusion of Crick Boue on Bass and gifted multi instrumentalist Scott French, Taylor has honed a sound and style sophisticated in its harmony and uniquely theatrical in performance.

The release of Taylor’s debut full-length album Warmer in July 2010 coincided with a successful tour of the east coast. The organic album included alluring yet disarmingly haunting songs, captured in places as far afield as a farmhouse in southern England and the muddy tracks of Vietnam, to Amsterdam and Osaka, and were finally recorded in a water tank tucked away in the hills of Northern NSW. The unconventional location proved an ideal melting pot and the band enlisted the craftsmanship of Engineer/Producer Govinda Doyle (Angus & Julia Stone) to blend the vintage tones, classic narrative and distinct modern pop sensibility of Taylor’s dynamic band. For the creation of Taylor’s second studio album, he once again assembled his multi talented band of musicians to lay down the musical mood that would match his brutally honest lyric. However, Taylor took a different approach to his second album, straying from the previous organic nature of Warmer, Taylor admits that his second album To Bed with You provides a more “polished and produced sound – in a good way”. Taylor recorded the album on home turf at Love Street Studios and released the album in June 2013 on the Gold Coast. In contrast to Taylor’s first album, To Bed with You seems to encapsulate a singular time, an album of the mind, anxious and heavily infected. It is an intimate affair, which includes his signature moments of humour and joy, but overall, it is deliciously dark.
