TVM has a cool new neighbour and we wanted to share the love.
Nestled in on the Lower Gold Coast Highway Burleigh Heads, just north of TVM, is Commune a delightful cafe run by locals Nerissa and Mitch. Next time you're at TVM, wonder up to Commune - the coffee is delicious and the 'walnut loaf' is a personal favourite.
TVM: How did you discover the venue for Commune, was it really after a Sunday visit to TVM?
C: We were driving back from Byron and popped in to TVM on our way home to Mermaid Beach - after picking up a few creative delights from the talented GC locals, we drove by the "old butcher" with the For Lease sign out the front and instantly knew that it had the potential to become something amazing - we just weren't quite sure what?!
TVM: Tell us about what visitors can expect to find at Commune - a mix of coffee, food, vintage and eco friendly wares? How did you come up with this mix?
C: My husband Mitch and I both have hospitality backgrounds and I have been lucky enough to work for some very talented cafe owners over the past few years. So with loads of experience and a love for the cafe industry, we have combined it with our love for the enviroment and our other business called All Eco (www.alleco.com.au) which we have run prodominantly online for the last 4 years. Our All Eco business started as mainly selling organic fabrics and textiles online, but has now grown to inlcude homewares, jewellery, bedding and lots more.
TVM: You have your own fashion label also?
C: I studied fashion at Uni and have been making clothes and selling them at different markets and at a few little boutiques on and off for the last 10 years. I also had a joint label with my sister called "Repossessed" which we made all the clothes from mens shirts that we souced from OP shops. We sold them at a few different markets including TVM.
TVM: Any special events on the calendar for the café?
C: There are definatley ideas that we are looking in to - and also a few charity event evenings coming up - so we will be sure to let everyone know when they are confirmed. We are promoting Meat Free Mondays at the cafe - so every Monday our food cabinet is stocked with yummy vego options. We will still have a few smoked salmon and tuna options available.
Opening hours are 6.30am - 3.30pm - 7 days.
