We all know that no two pups are exactly the same, so why should their wardrobe be? New to TVM this Sunday is Ted & Patrick, a brand made for a humans best friend.

Since 2017, Jennie McKinlay and her furry friend Teddie (Ted) have been specialising in handmade cotton rope and vegetable tanned leather products, designed to be just as unique as your fur ball.

Jennie’s passion started when Teddie joined her family and she just couldn’t find anything that conveyed a bit of her pup’s personality, so she decided to come up with her own hand made creations, designed to celebrate some of Teddie’s favourite things and places to go!

Ted & Patrick pride themselves on doing everything small batch and handcraft all of their branding right down to the anodized logo tags on their leads. Their signature products are designed and made in New Farm QLD under the watchful eyes of Ted.

If you haven't yet met Ted & Patrick then head to TVM this Sunday 7th July.

Jennie welcome to TVM, tell us a bit about your background?

Growing up on property on the Sunshine Coast, animals (especially dogs) and nature have always played a massive role in my life. Creative pathways has always been my thing since a child and although dabbling in graphic design and advertising degrees, travel took me to the other side of the world where I worked on private motor yachts and learnt traditional marine rope skills.

What made your pursue your creative passion?

The business started purely by accident, I had a new pup (Teddie aka Ted) and I couldn't find a lead in the colour or style I wanted, plus I wanted a lead that was unique, like her. I had a bundle of marine rope and decided, if I really wanted something that I could visualise, then I simply had to make it. We got so many comments on "where did you get your lead" that we realised there was more people out there like me looking for something special but didn't know where to get it, and so the business grew.

When did you take the plunge and start your own business?

It was six months of development and testing leading up to the launch to ensure our products were strong and suitable and the business started in April 2017 with the launch of our website

What does your brand consist of?

Ted & Patrick specialises in handmade cotton rope and vegetable tanned leather products, we pride ourselves on doing everything small batch and handcraft all of our branding right down to the anodized logo tags on our leads.

Where is the label designed and made?

Our signature products are designed and made in New Farm QLD under the watchful eyes of Ted. We do import a small product range from Japan as a little something fun but the dream as the business grows is to develop a range similar to our imported range but entirely from recycled materials.

What inspires you?

Well of course, I love dogs. I think these days they are very much part of the family and deserve to be spoilt too. As a creative I am inspired by constantly improving and refining my craft, coming up with new designs and evolving the existing lines.

What are your plans for the brand and where do you hope it takes you?

I would love to involve a recycled line - more dog products made from recycled plastics and focus proceeds from these lines to cleaning up our oceans and helping out dogs in need in Australia and globally.

What were the biggest challenges when launching your brand?

The biggest challenge of launching your own brand is overcoming your own fear of failure. Will people like my products, will I succeed - the thing is, they are all questions only answered by taking the leap of faith.

What is the best thing about having your own business?

The best thing about having your own business is having a creative outlet you can share with others. I think my happiest moments are when puppies and their humans send in photos or tag us on Instagram, out and about on their adventures.

In 2018 when Liza Michelle, a mother of three, took a trip to the supermarket with her young daughter in search of an appropriate women’s razor, she soon realised there was no such thing on the market.

As a passionate vegan and environmental advocate, the idea of purchasing a plastic, disposable razor for her young daughter just didn’t cut the mustard. The shaving creams on offer were not much better, filled with chemicals she struggled to pronounce and then there were the cosmetic bags, yet again, more synthetic fabrics.

After a discussion with her daughter about what she may want and need to commence her shaving experience, that would both benefit the environment and also be accessible for all women of any age – Tres Chic Shave Kit was born.

Meet Liza Michelle, mother of three and founder of Tres Chic Shave Kit – who will be joining us for the first time this Sunday 30 June at TVM Stones Corner.

When was it that you took the plunge and started your own business?

I did an online e-commerce course last October (2018) and it was Christmas last year, when I came up with my idea for the business.

I've been sourcing my fabric, designing and manufacturing my product since then.

What does your brand consist of?

My brand consists of, Eco-Audrey! She is our first Shave Kit.

It is a biodegradable, washable, cotton lined metal zipper vegan-friendly Kraft fabric cosmetic bag. It can be used as a shaving kit, makeup kit, clutch bag and pencil case. You name it!

A 3-blade Bamboo razor with a removal head for refills and vegan, homemade, coconut, Shea butter shave cream.

We use Hero Packaging (Australian owned) satchels for mailing, which are biodegradable.

Where is the label designed and made?

I make the shaving cream at home, using Australian natural products (Shea butter, coconut, oils, etc).

I buy my labels and jars in Australia, as I'm trying to use as many Australian businesses' as I can.

The biodegradable Kraft fabric comes from Germany and made in China along with the bamboo razors.

What inspires you?

Animal welfare and our environment. My heart breaks when I see what human beings are doing to such beautiful animals and our planet.

There are so many alternatives around, yet due to the cost of living, the big chain shops cut cost and make it so cheap that it's easy to buy any product these days, without really thinking about what it is that you're buying.

I do believe people want to make ethical choices yet it's not easy to find and they can be expensive.

What are your plans for the brand and where do you hope it takes you?

I hope that my brand resonates with women and that they will tell their friends all about it. I'm keeping costs as low as I can, as I would like my product to be in the home of as many women and young women, as possible.

I'd like to launch my product worldwide via my online store - shipping is so expensive, I hope I will be able to use a logistic company overseas to help with that major problem - I'm not there yet.

I'd like it to expand. I wish to work with some local Brisbane artists (I have someone in mind!) to create a new cosmetic kit every couple of months. I love the Kraft Fabric. It feels like leather but of course, it is not.

What were the biggest challenges when launching your brand?

Money is always the biggest challenge. I can build websites and do graphics, so that was the fun part. The hard part is brand awareness and driving traffic to my site so people are aware I exist and buy the product.

What is the best thing about having your own business?

The best thing is being able to be at home and available for my children. I do work hard and sometimes forget to stop and eat.

I also get to walk my poodle after school drop off and not needing to rush to get to work is a blessing. My stress level has been lowered.

Ohh De Naturale is the essence of natural beauty and cleaning products without the ‘nasties’, allowing customers to maintain a chemical free lifestyle for themselves and their loved ones.

Since its inception three years ago, Tanya Turro has created an incredible range of perfume balms, essential oil blends, cleaning sprays and much more which use locally sourced ingredients, no chemicals, no parabens, are cruelty free and 100% vegan!

Tanya’s passion to introduce a beautiful natural option can help people lead a much healthier life change by eliminating the chemical overload. She aims to educate and create awareness on how everyday chemicals can lead to an array of issues, and other ways to smell great without chemical saturation.

What's even better is that Tanya makes every single item herself and everything down to the packaging is made in Australian shores. If you haven't yet experienced Ohh De Naturale then head to TVM this Sunday 30 June.

What made your pursue your creative passion?

My journey through 11 years of IVF and fertility struggles has lead me to combine my love for all things natural and the enjoyment of interacting with people and sales. I learnt a lot on my journey to motherhood and most importantly I want to share the importance of Natural choices for everyday living to limit the toxic exposure people have in their lives through day to day commercial body & cleaning products. I am extremely passionate about Ohh De Naturale and how it can offer people a much healthier life change with eliminating the chemical overload and introducing a beautiful natural option that will benefit all people including the family dog.

When did you take the plunge and start your own business?

Ohh De Naturale is in its infancy but growing strong. I started out in early 2019 with the live website, social media presence & market stalls. All the research and testing started within the past 3 years. I have only ever tested on cool peeps and their offspring, ha.

What does your brand consist of?

Ohh De Naturale has a range of 11 Solid Perfume Balms, Luxury Clay & Salt Soaks, Luxury Raw Sugar Scrubs, Signature 100% Pure Essential Oil blends, foam wash and cleaning spray which all have amazing benefits.

Where is the label designed and made?

Absolutely every ingredient, packaging, labeling & product creating is done here in Australia, All my suppliers are Australian. I pride myself on keeping all aspects of this business within the family. All essential oils are sourced here in Australia. I physically make every single item myself here in Brisbane. Australia creates and supports amazing businesses and my little business is no different. NO money is sent off shore. I am very proud of this and want to support other local businesses.

What inspires you?

I am driven by changing people, educating them on other ways to smell great without chemical saturation. Education and awareness on how everyday chemicals can really lead to an array of issues for every person. I am living proof of that. So so many people are completely unaware of how synthetics and harmful chemicals are in our everyday products. Even those products that say plant based are not always free from synthetics. This drives me to show people not just tell them. I am very excited to let the customers touch, feel, smell and try Ohh De Naturale's products. I have complete faith in my range and I know that people love it as much as I do. Being aware of something allows people to make the right choices.

What are your plans for the brand and where do you hope it takes you?

My dream and goal is for my products to be on the shelves at great health stores, Naturopaths clinic's, salon's, spa's and be supported by lovely people who can truly appreciate, be confident, benefit and continue to use my products and maintain a chemical free lifestyle for themselves and their loved ones. Being a mum of two little boys I am extremely proud that I am teaching them how to live a non toxic life and therefore they will live a healthier life.

What were the biggest challenges when launching your brand?

My biggest challenge has been gaining exposure through Social Media and reaching enough followers and customers to then direct towards the website. As we all know having a lot of followers doesn't necessarily reflect onto the amount of sales you make. Instagram and Facebook merely want to charge absorbent prices for your social media posts to reach more people. I have gone from 800 followers on Instagram to 588 overnight. This crushes me.

Ohh De Naturale seems to be gaining more exposure via our market stalls than on any other platforms.

I have found the social media exposure very difficult and really want to gain more sales through it. It really bugs me how we go from over 800 to 588 overnight. I find that insane. However I am remaining positive that we can change this.

We love nothing more than welcoming new homegrown businesses into our community. Allow us to introduce Ben and Nicole Braithwaite and their business, Anvil + Essence.

Anvil + Essence was created In Burleigh Heads, Australia by husband and wife team Ben and Nicole Braithwaite. A shared passion by two different backgrounds, merged to bring a unique, modern perspective on traditional health and well-being.

Nicole and Ben

A compassionate Naturopathy student with a creative flair, Nicole began regularly crafting tea blends for her then fiancé Ben to support his mental clarity, stamina and recovery while working labor intensive shift work as a commercial Refrigeration Mechanic.

The beginning of an idea formed during that time as the benefits became a way of life. What started as studied relief, naturally formed into an exciting opportunity to bring the same level of care and support to others.

A new concept was formed to celebrate the ongoing study, skill and experience in the creation of innovative health, well-being and lifestyle products.

The duo say their passion comes to life by ensuring they provide an exceptional level of service, craftmanship and quality organic, cruelty free and sustainable products, with their clients highest well-being and satisfaction in mind.

They believe in satisfaction, sustainability and a great tasting cup of tea. Which is why they have created their hand blended teas that are designed for both taste and wellbeing. They only use 100% organic botanical ingredients throughout their product range. That means a well-rounded, vibrant taste with no nasty chemicals, additives or pesticides.

Every single ingredient and blended tea has been thoughtfully crafted to enhance and assist in the body’s healthy function. Chosen from a variety of ethically sourced Australian based suppliers, then carefully packaged within their sleek, modern violet MIRON glass containers.

Growing health, wellbeing and sustainability awareness, means people are more interested in enjoying organic products that provide a better taste with more benefits.

"When Nicole and I started Anvil + Essence, we always maintained that we would use the highest quality in every aspect of our journey to provide a modern-day solution to traditional, organic tea. Each product is delicately hand blended under our strict level of quality control, ensuring each product is beautiful in taste and appearance," says Ben.

"We love making tea and we plan on making them for a long time to come, which means we are here to provide long term sustainable solutions with a great quality product."

Congratulations to Ben and Nicole, who have launched their organic tea and wellness space online today. Head on over to take advantage of their generous launch discount!
