We first came across the band Chutney at Burleigh Beats street festival earlier this year and were impressed! So when we found out their frontman Matt Hansford also played accoustic sets, we had to get him to play at TVM. Matt's now a regular and a perfect fit for our cruisey Sunday morning vibes.
We had a quick chat so you can get to know him a little better and you can catch his next set on Sunday 2 October when we celebrate our 14th Birthday event.
TVM: Are you a Gold Coast local?
MH: I sure am! I have lived here all of my life. I'm located in Burleigh now.
How would you describe your musical style?
My biggest influences come from British music in the 90's, I loved bands like blur and oasis.
How did you get your start as a musician, was it via your band or were you solo initially?
I started doing acoustic music when I was around 18 and joined my first band Hot Coffee around 20. Since then I have been playing in Chutney and loving it.
What’s been a highlight for you so far in your career?
We have been able to play on some pretty cool festival bills and tour around the country. To be honest we just love playing in front of home crowds.
Where can Gold Coasters catch you playing, outside of TVM dates?
I often play at different bars around the coast and in Brisbane!
Follow me on Instagram to keep up to date.
Best advice for emerging musicians?
Make the music you want to make and hear. Not what you think someone else does.
Where are your top three Gold Coast venues for eats, drinks and good vibes?
Bine, Mo's Desert and our local bowlo.

You can catch Matt's next gig at TVM when we celebrate our 14th Birthday on Sunday 2 October 2022!
