Stall Profile :: Allure Art

Jul 11, 2018 | Art, Designer Profile

New to TVM this Sunday is Allure Art, by Cassandra Ashton Thomas. Founded in her studio at Runaway Bay in May 2018, Cassandra a graphic designer, works with alcohol ink, ink and watercolors to create original art pieces.

TVM: What inspires your work?
CT: My inspiration comes from the colours and forms found in nature. Living on the Gold Coast I am surrounded by a never-ending wonderland of oceans, lush green forests and a bounty of colourful flora. Using colour as language, my work is alive with emotion through the movement of inks and luscious layers. Each painting is filled with layer upon layer of ink, building a rich history into each piece.

What do you find to be the biggest challenge in having your own business?
For me one of the biggest challenges in being a full-time artist is the pressure to compete with big box stores and items made cheaply in other countries. Also reserving uninterrupted creative time in amongst busy days! It is the cornerstone of growth and success for my business since its vibrant nature is what differentiates it from others.

If you were to offer any advice to other emerging artists, what would it be?
To listen to what others have to say—friends, family, experts, even yourself. When it comes to things that have to do with your entrepreneurial goals, be a sponge. As you learn, start to work out the idea in your head. Write things down. Keep notes from all the resources you come across to develop a detailed plan. Don’t go it alone! Call on your trusted advisers and contacts to help work through and get you back on track.

You can find Allure Art at TVM this Sunday 15 July.
