About Vicky O'Keefe

Vicky O'Keefe was born into a life of rock ‘n’ roll. Her father, the late Johnny O' Keefe pioneered Rock Music in Australia, and Vicky, by the age of 9 was already an accomplished pianist, writing and performing songs with the help of the guitar that her dad had given her. Because of the family connection Vicky was introduced to a wide range of artists and musical influences, such as, Bill Haley, Carole King, Elton John and Janis Joplin. These artists made a great impact on Vicky. But her father, Johnny was always to remain her major influence.

After losing her dad at seventeen, Vicky formed a rock band and toured the east coast of Australia for 6 years, landing a contract with Warner Publishing and RCA records and releasing 3 singles. As a result, Vicky was invited to support international artists such as Rick Nelson, Suzie Quatro and America, later appearing on many high profile TV shows including Hey Hey It’s Saturday, and Sounds. A major highlight was appearing with her band on Star Search, winning 3 consecutive times while performing her own compositions. After 6 years of touring Vicky moved to Melbourne with her brother Peter, forming a duo and performing Jazz and Motown in major venues. During this period they collaborated on a tribute song for their dad, titled 'Keep The Candle Burning'. This song has now become a central highlight in all of Vicky’s live performances.

During the 90's Melbourne Promoter Greg Lynch contacted Vicky with the idea of performing a tribute show to her dad. This resulted in sellout shows at The Moorabbin Town Hall and extensive media campaigns that included major national coverage on Good Morning Australia with Bert Newton. On such a show Bert read to her a letter written by Hollywood Rock Star Tommy Sands, who express his love & admiration for herself and her father JO'K. Vicky followed with the release of  ‘I’m Counting On You,’ featuring a duet with her dad and several of her own compositions. Negotiations with Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmanian Casinos led to the launch of the Tribute CD with performances to full houses.  Audiences have a strong connection with Vicky through the love of her dad and his music.

Vicky was invited to perform her tribute show on overseas cruise, Rock The Boat 2 with Chubby Checker. Her performance on the Cruise was rated as the most popular and Vicky was invited to do another cruise, Rock The Boat 4 with The Sweet, Brian Cadd, Russell Morris and Molly Meldrum. After the cruise Vicky went into the studio and recorded an original album titled '50 Diamonds', which captures the essence of her songwriting featuring the best of her compositions. VOK continues performing around Australia promoting her latest album, '50 Diamonds' and performing her father’s hits and favorites from her contemporaries. Her passion for singing and performing is supported by a loyal following from all over Australia.
